4th of July 5K

Ran a 5K yesterday. It was an official one with chip timing so I was curious as to how it would compare to the unofficial Pumpkin 5K PR time I got last year (*20:57).

Anyways, I went in line to get my race shirt and bib/chip but it was so stupid. They combined lines so I was in a long one, and it took forever. I had to quickly get my stuff back to my car and then quickly go to the starting line.

Then, I got to the starting line and didn't go up all the way to the front, so it was all crowded at the beginning.

Anywho-- I ran my first mile in 6:33 I think and felt good. There were hills though which kinda killed me. Ended up with a time of 21:04.

I think I've gotten faster, just based on this race, so I'll be looking forward to my upcoming Pumpkin 5K time (flat, not-so-crowded Pumpkin 5K, ahhh...)

33 Miler (6-13-10)

Ran the Holcomb Valley 33-Miler last Sunday. Here are the results from this year's and last year's...

2010: 7hrs 11min 3sec (13:04 pace)
2009: 9hrs 12min 50sec (16:45 pace)

I knew I would do better than my time from last year cuz I was injured in 2009, but I expected to be faster this year and I wasn't. But it's all good, next year I'll be even faster and properly trained (this year I took a break after my 3 marathons in 6 weeks experiment and slacked on training).

Oh, on a different note, I got lost on this course at one point in 2009. On the same course this year, I got lost TWICE, wtf? =P

3rd Marathon In 6 Weeks (6th Overall)

This marathon was a net downhill, but that's deceiving cuz it was quite hilly and while the downhills were nice, the uphills killed me...

Fight For Air Climb + Down & Dirty Mud Run 10K (with obstacles!)

1.) 2010 Fight For Air Climb LA (3rd annual)
(benefiting the American Lung Association)
Sat, April 24th, 2010
AON Center (63 stories, 858 ft, 1377 stairs)
Bib: 696 (or 11696 according to the computer and not the actual bib)
Age: 27
Class: M19-29
Rank: 61 out of 569
Overall Time: 13:36
Pace: 0:12
Division: 12 out of 54

INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT THE STAIRS RACE...
-the fastest climber was a guy who did it in 8:03 (0:07 pace)
-the slowest climber was a guy who did it in 1:14:11 (1:10 pace)
-the person who placed ahead of me (60th) had the same exact time as me, WTF?!
-there was a guy named “Andrew Hong” (also 27 years old) and he got 12:35 (0:11)

2.) Merrell Down & Dirty Mud Run *10K (1st annual)
Sun, April 25th, 2010
Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, CA
Bib: 671
Age: 27
Division: M25-29
Rank: 145 out of 778
Overall Time: *58:31
Pace: *9:26
Division: 28 out of 81

I'm putting an asterisk by my time cuz there was some errors with the chip timing. But it's all good, I wasn't running it for time. My friend slowed down and so I stayed with her and we did the fun obstacles together!

KELLY'S LAKEFRONT MARATHON

~KELLY'S LAKEFRONT MARATHON
Sat, April 10th, 2010
Legg Lake... yes, that Legg Lake (old location of the Pumpkin 5K)

Half Marathon: 8 runners
Full Marathon: 7 runners

Age: 27
(no bib #)
~TIME: 3:41:32 (new personal best!)
~PACE: 8:27 min/mile

~PLACED: 1st OVERALL (out of 7 runners)
(first running trophy ever... first time ever WINNING a race)
=)

--> ran my 2nd marathon this year (5th ever) and it was the first I haven't run with Team in Training and also the first one that wasn't a huge race. The race director Charlie Alewine does a bunch of small races which was interesting to me. All his races are capped at 25 runners. Here's his website...

http://www.charliealewineracing.com

This race was cool cuz it was at our old Pumpkin 5K location in Legg Lake. Hadn't been there since 2008 when we all dressed up in costumes. The course was pretty flat and the weather was perfect marathon weather. Each loop was a little over 2 miles and the full marathoners did 12 laps around.

The start was kinda funny to me cuz at one point in the beginning we were all running together (they were doing the half marathon) and it reminded me of those elite runners in marathons who run together at the start in one small group, haha.

Getting close to the half marathon, I passed the runners who had passed me (I felt like they had gone out too fast) and soon there was only 1 runner ahead of me (he was doing the half and wasn't that far ahead... if I was doing the half I think I could've gotten him!) =)

Anyways-- I finished and annihilated the competition! =) When I left the race, it was already ~30 min after I finished and the girl in 2nd place hadn't even finished yet.

Also-- it was cool to finally get a trophy for placing in a race (even though it was a small race)... I always seem to come short at the Pumpkin 5K in placing, doh!

Updates

Hey hey,

Just an update on some PR's I've set this month!

1.) 10K: 46:25 (7:29 pace)... ran this during a Top to Top Run Club practice on 3/3/10, so it wasn't an official race or anything. I ran this one a lot more comfortably than the previous 10K race I ran in which I PRed.

2.) MARATHON: 3:52:53 (8:53 pace)... ran this at the LA Marathon on 3/21/10. Ran it pretty comfortably as well. Didn't "cross that line" you go over if you go too fast, ya know? But definitely got close to the line (comfortably). Here are my stats/splits

3.) Down and Dirty Mud Run--> Sun, April 25th
4.) OC Marathon--> Sun, May 2nd
5.) Santa Monica Classic (5K probably... maybe 10K)--> Sun, May 16th
6.) Holcomb Valley Trail Run (33 miles)--> Sun, June 13th
7.) Mount Disappointment (50 miles)--> Sat, Aug 7th
8.) Five Cities Marathon--> Sun, Oct 24th

Then, Pumpkin 5K (of course) and another marathon if I wanna complete my 2010 goal of running 5. I'll need to find a 10K and 1/2 marathon too and maybe do those.

Redondo Beach 10K

Ran the Redondo Beach 10K today, and PR'd! Last run was Brentwood 10K at 49:51. The race day was forecasted with a 20% chance of rain, but skies were blue the whole time. It was pretty cold pre-run., but right about run time (8:30a) the sun was up and it got comfortable - very nice start conditions. The course was pretty hilly contrary to expectation, but at least the hills weren't too steep... until mile 5! Though one guy passed me on that hill with a baby buggy; nice work there.
