Long walk

Walked 8.4 miles today in Cleveland NF near Rancho Santa Margarita. It was raining almost the whole time, so it was extra difficult training :)

The Master of Stairs

I got 150 flights of stairs on the stairmaster on Saturday, and then did 15 minutes at 6 mph on the Ellipical. I'm prepping for a Saturday hike, which is 12 miles and 6000 ft of elevation change.

FINALLY!!!! =)

Finally. My first run after our 5K. I've been trying to run for weeks but things have gotten in the way...

~Sun 10/22: Last time running at Drake Stadium before today
~Sat 10/28: Our 5K race
~Weekend of 11/4 - 11/5: Food poisoning (had to take 2 days off of work after the weekend) (DIDN'T RUN)
~Sun 11/12: Went to Drake Stadium but there was a UCLA soccer game going on (DIDN'T RUN)
~Sun 11/19: Was about to go to Drake Stadium but then saw on website that it was closed (DIDN'T RUN)
>>>FRIDAY 11/24 (TODAY): Left around noon (right when my "weekend" parking permit begins working--> Friday's at noon) and ran at Drake Stadium

Since my stopwatch died, I tried out my new phone's lap timing feature. It's cool, but it's really hard to read during the run since the screen goes dark and the font is so small. I didn't get my exact time on the last lap because it took me probably 5-10 seconds after finishing to realize that the clock was still ticking.

lap 1... 1:54.80
lap 2... 2:03.01
lap 3... 2:04.98
lap 4... 2:03.98
lap 5... 2:06.12
lap 6... about probably 2:15 or so

Total Time... about probably 12:30 min or so

---Andrew =) (ps: I did feel a little sick after running so that was a downer, but it was no where as sick as I felt the last time I ran at Drake Stadium. Also, I didn't really run my normal amount of laps, but I guess that it's understandable since I haven't done any running in almost a month)

Not Quite Running

Still trying to figure out this damn Daylight savings stuff so I can still work out. Did the stairmaster on Friday for 30 solid minutes. Woah, that was quite a workout, though not quite running. Not sure if it counts on this website :) 170+ BPM heart rate while I was going. 100 "flights" of stairs :)

Wierd daytime run

Wierd run today with a co-worker. Co-worker is cool, but the run was right midday during lunch, and they ain't got showers! I just hid away in a break room and ate lunch while I stopped profusely sweating, and then changed back into my work clothes. I did a hit of deoderant of course, but it was just wrong getting back into work clothes. Ew. Maybe next time I'll run at the end of the day, cool down while I download and maybe watch some lecture, and then just leave running clothes on and ride the train back. Train people smell, occasionally, so I might as well join the crowd.

Also wierd, i didnt run the whole time. I ran and walked intermittantly because the other guy wanted to take it easy. Total time running was >15 min. Probably closer to 25 min. Had a really good burst of energy at the end of the run and got some really long steps in. I think I can get some GREAT speed doing that, but I'm worried about my bones. Hopefully I can eventually get to that long stride for a full 5K.

In related news: Disneyland Half Marathon run signups postponed until Jan 8.

POISONED

I was going to run this past Sunday, but I got food poisoning on Saturday. I had to take 2 days off of work! (which includes today). But, I should be back to work tomorrow.

Anyways, whoops... I found the results on Active.com

Also, did you and Emily want to do another 5k? I'm going to look into doing a couple more 5k's before moving onto the 10k. It just seems like it's too far a leap for me to go from one 5k to a 10k all of a sudden.

Perhaps one before Thanksgiving and/or Xmas?

5 K more

Did another 5K distance today (unofficial - self timed and self metered). Got 28:17 today, so that makes me think that perhaps we measured the distance incorrectly. It seems like I ran just as fast today as I did last weekend, but the time's don't seem right. It could be because it was quite hot today (85).

I'm not sure when my next official 5K will be. I'd like to train more and do a 10K next, actually. I gotta get closer to the half-marathon distance.

The results do seem to be posted on active.com - E.S. found her info: she got 31:21, it ends up.

PUSH THAT ENVELOPE

1.) So when's the next 5K, man?

2.) Why haven't the race results been posted on Active.com?

5K Results

That was a great run, and probably the fastest I've run a 5K distance to date, and this is my first "official" running race. I'm feeling ok now, so training must have helped somewhat. Excellent work to Andrew - I indeed was HORNGINATED! His last 200 yard stretch was amazing - I'm not sure where he got that last burst of energy. E.S. did great too - I think we were all pushin' it to the limits.

Andy-vs-Andrew Official 5K Pumpkin Run 10-28-06 Results:
Andrew: (24:32), 7.9 min/mi
Standing: 4th in Men's Div 2 out of 9 runners
Andy: (25:36), 8.3 min/mi
Standing: 2nd in Men's Div 3 out of 4 runners

Olympic record for the 5K is 12:37, which is 4.1 min/mile. Looks like anything sub-13 minutes is approaching Olympic. Respect!

Tomorrow morning - it's on!

5K is tomorrow morning. Just wanted to post some pre-run comments. I ate a very healthy dinner tonight (Taco Bell) and I'm pumped. Doing some stretching. Organizing a killer playlist for the run. My shin really hurt today when I was walking - it was strange, but I think it's what happened to me before when I was running in college. My bones aren't strong enough to take the repetitive shock. So I have to get into this thing slowly to build up durable leg bones.

Anyway, may the fastest man win! Honestly, I'm shooting for the top half of my age class, whatever that is. I figure that's a good gauge.

Back in action

Got back on the horse today after taking two run days off. Had sharp pains in my lower legs in various places, so that wasn't good. Took 'er slow today, and ran South route in 29:37. Very slow, but OH well. Goal is just to finish the 5K and not get too embarrased when I get Hornginated :P It's mostly mental.

DISASTER

Ran just 5 laps in Lane 6 in 10:40 minutes.

During the run, I had a cramp in my stomach. After running, I felt like I was going to throw-up (but didn't).

It could be because of a few things...
1.) I drank last night.
2.) I ate a sugary cereal with a banana beforehand when I woke up at 3pm today.
3.) I didn't eat what I usually eat before a run: a pizza.

Anyways, I'm disappointed. The agony of defeat. Hope that I'll be able to make it for Saturday.

It's Official

As of 11:23pm, I am now officially signed up for the 5K race.

---Andrew =)

32 min, 3.1 miles (5K) 10.5 min/mi

Slow day today again - some pain in my right knee and right ankle. Ran the south route, but ES found a way to get us 3.1 mi from that route. On the way back, cops were busting some of the crazy people who live along the North route. Some guy was yelling and swearing at no one while he sat there and drank his 40's. The neighborhood is going to hell in a handbasket! South route seems a little safer though.

Drake, Part II

Got back from Drake Stadium. I felt a little light-headed and slightly dizzy when I finished running. Maybe I should slow my pace down. Anyways, here are the results...

~ran 10 full laps in Lane 6 (479 yards per lap) for a total running time of 21:40 minutes

~4790 yards is ~2.721590 miles

~Per Mile Average: ~7:58 min/mi (about a little more than 2 secs worse than the last run)
~Per Lap Average: 2:10 min/lap (about a little less than 1 sec worse than the last run)

Friday, October 13, 2006

28:57, 2.8 mi

Slow run today - legs were hurting, so i'll let them heal up, and do stretching tomorrow. Then, another run on Sunday. Might be a long one if I'm feeling better.

N. Route, 23.5 min (9.4 min/mi)

Ran the north route. Some WIERD shit going down up there. Hobo living in the drainage ditch. Scary after dark. Won't run after dark again up there.

In other news, results from the Disneyland Half marthon are up. The top 20% of the runners in my 25-29 age group ran with a 9 minute mile pace for the full 13.1 miles. I think that's what my goal is going to be. I'm def. signing up for that Disneyland run in 2007. Andrew, you should join me and E.S. - signups are in 1 month for the September 2007 run. I think it will fill up quickly. But looks SO BITCHIN. Disneyland is bitchin.

Drake Stadium (UCLA)

Went to UCLA's Drake Stadium this afternoon to run. I like it because the track's ground is soft (easy on the knees) and I know how long each lap is (depends on the lane, too). Funny, because at one point the UCLA Girls' Track Team (or some sort of girls team) were chasing after me. Luckily, they never got to me and I out-ran them all.

Anyways, here are my results...

-used Lane 6 (479 yards per lap)
-ran 8 full laps in 17:15 min
-8 laps x 479 yds = 3832 total yards

If 1 mi = 1760 yds... then I ran ~2.18 miles, averaging just under 8 minutes per mile

Averaged about 2:09 minutes per lap

3.6 mi

ran a different south route this time, hitting an extra leg to a foot bridge and added .85 miles to the total distance. My playlist got screwed up, so I have no idea how long it took, but I tried to push my pace up today. I found out also that my iPod has a stopwatch feature on it, so I'll have to use that from now on to clock time.

Dark run

Ran the south route today right after the sun went down - got quite dark. Cops were busy busting some homeless guy on the North route, so we decided to let them do their job.

Not sure about the time - about the usual time (27 min or so).
If you officially decide to run a 5K in the spring, I'll do it with you (if you want). I feel motivated now. Sorry for the lack of running productivity. Last weekend was great and jam-packed with stuff (except running). I'm going to try out the UCLA track this weekend. Should be good for the knees.

South route, 28m 45s

Ran the south route today with E.S., 2.7 miles. So that's 10.6min miles. I'm going to set a goal to run a 5K before march. Then I'd like to run a 10K before May, and then maybe shoot for the marathon by August 2007. I've always wanted to run a marathon, and I think 2007 just might be the year. It's so much easier to run here in CA vs. IL or NE. Weather is always cooperative.

Nickel Creek - Best of Luck 2:00
Weezer - Pink Triangle 3:58
Manchester Orchestra - Alice and Interiors 4:43
Club Box - The Nightfly 3:12
Guster - One Man Wrecking Machine 3:53
Club Box - The Truth 4:04
Paul Oakenfold - This Is Trance 6:55

Ayla - Veracocha - 2:00
Armin van Buuren - Serenity - 11:37
The Urge - Going Down - 3:26
Utada Hikaru - Eternally - 4:41
Van Halen - Right Now - 5:17

27 min 1 s!!!!

Today might just be the first after-work run I've done for this blog. I get a little tired from work, and it makes running tougher. I felt a little queasy towards the end, but pushed through. I was also still a bit stiff from Sunday. Also, music shuffle was JUNK for this run, other than Van Halen.

The doc says I should be running more than just on the weekends though, so time permitting, I suppose this is a good setup. I've definintely got some good areas to run around here though - easily accessible, safe-ish, and in the grass, if I want.

There is a cool service for certain phones/carriers here:
www.bimactive.com
It knows your GPS location from your service provider, and then tracks your route, speed, and posts it all in a nice online interface. That would be REALLy cool, but haven't investigated the price.

22 minutes

Yo, first off-- great job Andy. Maybe when we're good and ready, we can do that Nike+/iPod thing... that would be cool.

Anyways, I just ran 22 minutes today. Not as sweaty, and never felt that 2nd wind (although never really felt tired too) during the run.

---Andrew =)

Andy rebounds

Today's run was 23min (and 22sec)

The Urge - Four Letters, Two Words 3:40

Club Mix - Follow Me 3:42

Ran south this time along the lower San Gabriel river. Last time I ran north there was stench of horse turds (there's an equestrian center there). Total distance: 2.6 mi based on Google Earth :).

20 minutes exactly

I felt like I could go on for a few more minutes, but didn't want to burn myself out totally on the first run back. I'm back baby, and it feels goooooooood.

The Long Jog

ran 25 minutes today
total: 34 minutes
This is what I thought I could hit last time, but my shins started hurting then. This time I got the inserts back into my shoes and I can't be stopped! Also, took Andrew's advice and ran with music. It was great!

Holiday Break Running

So, I didn't have internet access at home, so I'm just posting this now...

~SUN, DEC 25TH: I ran 8 minutes.
~MON, DEC 26TH: I ran 10 minutes.
~TUES, DEC 27TH: I ran 17 minutes.
~WED, DEC 28TH: I ran 12 minutes.

Leaving me with 71* minutes I still needed to run. So I guess I didn't accomplish my end-of-the-year goal... =( I'll make it up somehow.
