Susan G. Komen 5K Results

YOOOOO...

Sorry for the late posting, but here are my results from my 5K on Sunday morning, Feb. 25th, at 9:30am.

-2036 runners, 4114 walkers.
-wore #354
-in division 102 (Male 18-24)
-official running time: 23:19 min
-average mile pace: 7:32 min
-placed 13th in my division
-placed 134th overall in race

There were tons of people there. I think I was screwed a few seconds out of my official time... partly because it took a while before I could start since I was in the middle of the pack at the beginning. Also, there was some confusion to where the finishing line was, so I stopped the time on my stopwatch prematurely before actually crossing the line. My watch said 23:10 but it was probably a couple more seconds after that because of the screw-up at the end. Also, I always question whether the volunteers get the actual times during big races like these. It seems so sloppy.

Anyways, I fully completed my goal of running a 5K under 24 minutes and beat my first-ever 5K score (24:32). My legs were a little sore the next couple of days, by the way. Oh yeah, and the only reason why I'm accepting the 23:19 score against my 23:10+ score is because the race got a little easier in the middle where it was just all downhill. Maybe that's part of the reason why I ran better.

The results are actually posted online at www.lackomenrace.org under "Race Information"... the fastest time was by a 22-year-old guy who did it in 15:41 min.

What else... oh yeah, during the race, I didn't feel as bad as our October 5K. I felt a cramp coming but I eased it by breathing heavily. It took me a long time before I got winded. Also, I recovered quicker after the race. During our October 5K I initially felt a little weird right when I finished, but I was back to normal pretty quickly for this one. Although... my high after the race was bigger in October I think. I did physically feel good, but not as good as in October.

Dude... my last stretch of running was awesome. I turned up the engines and the reserves and finished strongly. I flew by everyone and it seemed like I was the only one trying to do that. Everyone seemed to just jog in cuz they were tired. Man, my headphones came off and everything cuz I was just chugging along and my legs felt detached from my body. But I didn't care.

The host interviewed runners after they finished while the race was still going on and I was interviewed at some point. It was a good 5K and a good cause and I'll probably do it next year. I really feel like if I train hard enough this summer, I'll be able to do a 10K.

DISASTER

5K run is in less than a week.

Only ran about 2 laps (almost 2 laps that is) in 4:02 min.

Didn't break a sweat or even have Gatorade.

Plus, during my short run, the left ear part of my headphones died. RIP.

Reason: my boss called during the run. I messed up something and he wasn't too happy. After getting the call, I didn't feel like running anymore.

I had a lot of time left on my meters... quarters were wasted.

And, I was supposed to go to Subway afterwards but decided not to cuz I felt bad.

Sick run

Ran on Thursday for 28:40, the 3 mile loop, but soon after I felt a cold coming on. End result: sick for the whole weekend. BUMMER DOOD.

Sun Run

Ate some pizza (= my "steroids") before running at Drake Stadium this afternoon.

8 laps in Lane 6.

Total Time: 16:50 min
Average Lap Time: ~2:06 min

That 5K is coming up and I really need to get at least 9-10 laps next weekend.

Sat Run Time

I'm a little disappointed that I didn't run on Sunday as well last weekend. But, I plan to run tomorrow (Sun) sometime during the day.

Anyways, I ran today (Sat) at Drake Stadium and here were my lane 6 lap times...

Lap 1) 2:01
Lap 2) 2:09
Lap 3) 2:07
Lap 4) 2:06
Lap 5) 2:09
Lap 6) 2:09

Total Time... 12:41
Average Lap Time... 2:07

I was kinda distracted and disappointed after the run because I thought I had only ran 5 laps (guess I miscounted). Also, I was wondering if I was going to get a ticket while I was running for using a "failed" meter. And, I was distracted because I thought that I was going to get kicked off the stadium since a sign said that the lane was closed for UCLA practice (but it wasn't).

19 mile bike ride

Just let me know if these non-running activities don't count for this blog... but yea, 2 hours ride time, 19 miles! Went from my apartment down to Long Beach along their beach bike trail. What a beautiful day, yesterday. And no one was at the beach due to the football game, so I had plenty of elbow room. The bike ride ended up being too long though - I was really dragging at the end, and it was iffy whether I'd have to call up Em to get an emergency ride home :)

Not sure why I got so tired - the Running/Biking combo weekend might have been a bit too much. One thing's for sure. I haven't improved since October, so I don't think I should sign up for another race yet. I just need to get out during the weekdays and work more on improvement. Better weather will be a boon for this.

26 min run

Today, ran approx 3 miles in 26 minutes.

mile 1: 9:30 min
mile 2: 8:00 min
mile 3: 8:30 min

I pushed pretty hard on that mile #2, and I wanted to bump it up to 4 miles today, but my legs were feeling sore, so I decided it prudent to stop at the normal distance. I am going to go shopping for some new running shoes tonight - there are good deals at a nearby store, I hear...
Listened to songs from Argentina during this run - not particularly good running music.

Susan G. Komen 5K For Breast Cancer

Hey Emily and Andy,

I just signed up for the Susan G. Komen 5K Race just now. It's Feb 25th (Sunday) in Pasadena. I know it's a little far, but my co-worker had great things to say about this one. She said it was the best 5K she's ever been a part of.
