5K Results

That was a great run, and probably the fastest I've run a 5K distance to date, and this is my first "official" running race. I'm feeling ok now, so training must have helped somewhat. Excellent work to Andrew - I indeed was HORNGINATED! His last 200 yard stretch was amazing - I'm not sure where he got that last burst of energy. E.S. did great too - I think we were all pushin' it to the limits.

Andy-vs-Andrew Official 5K Pumpkin Run 10-28-06 Results:
Andrew: (24:32), 7.9 min/mi
Standing: 4th in Men's Div 2 out of 9 runners
Andy: (25:36), 8.3 min/mi
Standing: 2nd in Men's Div 3 out of 4 runners

Olympic record for the 5K is 12:37, which is 4.1 min/mile. Looks like anything sub-13 minutes is approaching Olympic. Respect!

Tomorrow morning - it's on!

5K is tomorrow morning. Just wanted to post some pre-run comments. I ate a very healthy dinner tonight (Taco Bell) and I'm pumped. Doing some stretching. Organizing a killer playlist for the run. My shin really hurt today when I was walking - it was strange, but I think it's what happened to me before when I was running in college. My bones aren't strong enough to take the repetitive shock. So I have to get into this thing slowly to build up durable leg bones.

Anyway, may the fastest man win! Honestly, I'm shooting for the top half of my age class, whatever that is. I figure that's a good gauge.

Back in action

Got back on the horse today after taking two run days off. Had sharp pains in my lower legs in various places, so that wasn't good. Took 'er slow today, and ran South route in 29:37. Very slow, but OH well. Goal is just to finish the 5K and not get too embarrased when I get Hornginated :P It's mostly mental.

DISASTER

Ran just 5 laps in Lane 6 in 10:40 minutes.

During the run, I had a cramp in my stomach. After running, I felt like I was going to throw-up (but didn't).

It could be because of a few things...
1.) I drank last night.
2.) I ate a sugary cereal with a banana beforehand when I woke up at 3pm today.
3.) I didn't eat what I usually eat before a run: a pizza.

Anyways, I'm disappointed. The agony of defeat. Hope that I'll be able to make it for Saturday.

It's Official

As of 11:23pm, I am now officially signed up for the 5K race.

32 min, 3.1 miles (5K) 10.5 min/mi

Slow day today again - some pain in my right knee and right ankle. Ran the south route, but ES found a way to get us 3.1 mi from that route. On the way back, cops were busting some of the crazy people who live along the North route. Some guy was yelling and swearing at no one while he sat there and drank his 40's. The neighborhood is going to hell in a handbasket! South route seems a little safer though.

Drake, Part II

Got back from Drake Stadium. I felt a little light-headed and slightly dizzy when I finished running. Maybe I should slow my pace down. Anyways, here are the results...

~ran 10 full laps in Lane 6 (479 yards per lap) for a total running time of 21:40 minutes

~4790 yards is ~2.721590 miles

~Per Mile Average: ~7:58 min/mi (about a little more than 2 secs worse than the last run)
~Per Lap Average: 2:10 min/lap (about a little less than 1 sec worse than the last run)

28:57, 2.8 mi

Slow run today - legs were hurting, so i'll let them heal up, and do stretching tomorrow. Then, another run on Sunday. Might be a long one if I'm feeling better.

N. Route, 23.5 min (9.4 min/mi)

Ran the north route. Some WIERD shit going down up there. Hobo living in the drainage ditch. Scary after dark. Won't run after dark again up there.

In other news, results from the Disneyland Half marthon are up. The top 20% of the runners in my 25-29 age group ran with a 9 minute mile pace for the full 13.1 miles. I think that's what my goal is going to be. I'm def. signing up for that Disneyland run in 2007. Andrew, you should join me and E.S. - signups are in 1 month for the September 2007 run. I think it will fill up quickly. But looks SO BITCHIN. Disneyland is bitchin.

Drake Stadium (UCLA)

Went to UCLA's Drake Stadium this afternoon to run. I like it because the track's ground is soft (easy on the knees) and I know how long each lap is (depends on the lane, too). Funny, because at one point the UCLA Girls' Track Team (or some sort of girls team) were chasing after me. Luckily, they never got to me and I out-ran them all.

Anyways, here are my results...

-used Lane 6 (479 yards per lap)
-ran 8 full laps in 17:15 min
-8 laps x 479 yds = 3832 total yards

If 1 mi = 1760 yds... then I ran ~2.18 miles, averaging just under 8 minutes per mile

Averaged about 2:09 minutes per lap

3.6 mi

ran a different south route this time, hitting an extra leg to a foot bridge and added .85 miles to the total distance. My playlist got screwed up, so I have no idea how long it took, but I tried to push my pace up today. I found out also that my iPod has a stopwatch feature on it, so I'll have to use that from now on to clock time.

Dark run

Ran the south route today right after the sun went down - got quite dark. Cops were busy busting some homeless guy on the North route, so we decided to let them do their job.

Not sure about the time - about the usual time (27 min or so).
If you officially decide to run a 5K in the spring, I'll do it with you (if you want). I feel motivated now. Sorry for the lack of running productivity. Last weekend was great and jam-packed with stuff (except running). I'm going to try out the UCLA track this weekend. Should be good for the knees.

South route, 28m 45s

Ran the south route today with E.S., 2.7 miles. So that's 10.6min miles. I'm going to set a goal to run a 5K before march. Then I'd like to run a 10K before May, and then maybe shoot for the marathon by August 2007. I've always wanted to run a marathon, and I think 2007 just might be the year. It's so much easier to run here in CA vs. IL or NE. Weather is always cooperative.
