5mi Run Hit Remix results n' new shoes

Run Hit Remix 5mi race was last weekend. So that was the third weekend in a row that I've done really active stuff in a row - Disney Half, then did a weekend hike in the white mountains which are 6hrs north of here - max altitude was 14,252 feet. Then I did this most recent run. So I'm pretty sore after all that - this weekend is marked for relaxation.

The crew that put together the run hit remix didn't notice that the starting mat did not work, therefore no one had their start times recorded based on their running chips. So that's a SNAFU. Very unfortunate, since I ran a really great race. But luckily I did look at the official race time when I ran thru the starting gates. Here's the results:
Overall Rank:620 of 8487 runners, top 7.3%
Bib3163
classrank100 of 989 M25-29, top 10.1%
sexrank451 of 3424 dudes, top 13.2%
pace (min/mi)00:08:01
chipstart(est.)00:01:08
chipfinal00:40:06
halfsplit00:21:41

A lot of folks just chilled by the stages setup along the run though - on the whole, I think everyone was just out to have fun and listen to some music. My first race where I opted out of the iPod!

Then, I got new shoes Sunday. It was 20 min before Sportmart closed, but I really wanted to get shoes so ES and I peeled rubber and had about 10 minutes to shop for new shoes. Tried on the $85 GT-2120's - best price I've seen for those. I need a 12 1/2, but they didn't have those. 11.5 is the last half size, arg. I see on Amazon they have the 12.5... Hmm, well, so I tried on a few others... Mizunos on someone's suggestion. Ended up with the Asics Oberon. Again, I should have gotten a 12.5, but 12s seem to be ok. Haven't run in them yet, but I did run across the street and ooh, that's nice. It's really squishy in the heel which has to be good for me. Not sure if my New Balance shoes were ever that squishy, but certainly now, the soles are almost completely worn off of those. It was a good stint for those shoes. They have really stayed looking nice despite lots of use.

We will likely do the Pumpkin 5k also. Haven't signed up yet though.
