I've heard of yo-yo dieting, but I wonder if there's such a thing as yo-yo exercising. I was in good shape when I ran the 5K, but now I can't run for shit. I ran 5 laps today (lane 6) in 10:23 min.
I think that if I was only able to run on the weekends, I'd be screwed. But because of hiatus, I can run on the weekdays as well. So, hopefully I'll be able to slowly-but-surely get to where I wanna be. That 10K is coming up soon.

Longest Run, Redux
This time, I ran farther. Did the 2.7 loop twice this evening. The stats:
48.1 min / 5.4 mi = 8.9 min/mi.
Didn't walk the entire time, but my legs were really tight especially towards the end. They felt numb almost, which I thought might be bad. I got home, stretched, and seems like I can feel them again! I'm getting quite close to the 10K distance.

Season Over, Hiatus/Training Begins
Hiatus began yesterday.
I ran today (Thurs) before 1pm at Drake Stadium in Lane 6.
4 laps in 8:30 min... pretty bad, but hopefully I'll be able to get into shape before the 10K next month.

Longest Run
In prep for the 10K, I decided during my run today to make it a long run. I hit south bridge, then north bridge, and returned via the neighborhood. The stats: 40.3 min / 4.66 mi = 8.64 min/mi
So my pace was in the normal range, but I increased the distance by 70%! We'll see how much pain I'm in tomorrow.

El Moro Trail Run
Ran today at El Moro which is near Crystal Cove just north of Laguna Beach. Beautiful area, and temps were nice and cool as to make running bearable. The run was uphill (the trail was called BFI, as in "Big Fucking Incline"), for a total of 5 miles. Took and 1.5 hours total. That' 3.33 miles per hour. Usually trail hiking like this is at 2.2 mph or so, for comparison. The run got the heart rate way up, and probably worked out some muscles I don't usually use, so that's good.

Weak jog
Feelin a little sick, but decided to get out today anyway and just do an easy jog.
25.66mi / 2.7mi = 9.5 min/mi
Might do some trail running this weekend! Never tried that before, though I assume I will be instantly decimated.

Friday eve run
Ran today, but felt pain from Tuesday's run. That was my worry - I would really hurt my legs if I ran really hard like Tues :( Bummer! Well, I'll keep at it. Today did:
22 min / 2.7 mi = 8.1 min/mi
22 min / 2.7 mi = 8.1 min/mi

run 3, oops, missed weekend run...but success today
Sadly did not run this weekend - I went paintballing, and then the laziness set in. I mean, I drove all the way to the track but there were no parking spaces!!! :P
But today, I made a huge comeback. 20.667 min / 2.7 mi = 7.65 min/mi!!!!!!! That is by far my fastest pace in the last 2 years over such a distance. Almost a full minute faster per mile than my normal running pace. It was a combination of longer strides as I guessed earlier in this blog, and also constant focus on the pace during the run.
Now I need to start taking that 2.7 miles up to a longer distance.
officially signed up for the 10K as of this evening.
